The Josiah Smith Tennent House stands out as a landmark and is a focal point on the gateway to the city of Charleston. Constructed in 1859, this brick mansion is significant for both its architecture and history. In 1862, it was used as a Confederate hospital called the Soldiers' Relief Home. It has had a variety of uses over the past 150 years, and was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.
